Important Details when applying for your Indian Visa
When applying for your Indian Visa the application form will ask you several questions. We ask that
you follow our instructions closely, as the answers you provide will benefit you, your family, and will
make approval of your Visa as quick as possible.

Type of Visa - When applying for your Visa it is important that you state the type of Visa you are
requesting is TOURIST, and the purpose and places of visit are tourism visiting CHENNAI. If you
claim any other purpose your Visa will often require more paperwork and will take much longer to
process.

Expedited Delivery - If you desire, you may obtain your Visa the same day by visiting one of the
afore mentioned Indian Embassy/Consular Offices in the USA in person. Plan on dropping off your
application early in the morning, then returning near closing time to pick up your visa.

Name and Address of Two References - When applying for your Visa you will need to write in the
name and address of two references. One must be a person in your country -- family member,
friend, other -- who can be contacted in an emergency.

The second name must be someone in India who can be contacted if it becomes
necessary to reach you there. Please use one of the following names and addresses for
your reference in India.

Please make sure to bring these telephone numbers with you in case of a problem. *In the US you
will have to dial 011 first followed by the phone number.

Passport and Visa Tip: Obtaining a passport and Indian Visa can be time consuming, so plan well in
advance for these documents. And please read this page completely, especially the India Visa
section. Print it out if necessary. Each month we receive frantic calls from people who don't know how
to fill out their Indian Visa and did not take the time to read this page. We help them out, of course,
but as you can see it takes quite some time to read out the names and addresses of contacts in
India over the phone (we have to spell out each name and street address letter by letter). So please,
for your sanity and ours, read this page carefully.
