The Attunement Process
The attunement process brings the, Reiki energy down to the student. This is
different from many other forms of obtaining the gift of healing where one has to
raise their vibration to that of the healing energy. Any one can start right where they
are at and become attuned to the Reiki energy.
This is similar to a baptism where the priest brings down the Holy Spirit and draws the
sign of the cross on the baby. The baby is filled with the Holy Spirit and the priest
then seals the baptism with the sign of the cross. With Reiki, the Reiki Master draws
down the Reiki energy and connects it to the student through the use of the Reiki
Symbols and the ability to attune people to the Reiki. This is perhaps the greatest
aspect of Reiki, that it allows one to attune others to the Reiki energy.
Attunement means to be brought into harmony or "in tune" with. So during a
Reiki'attunement the student is started on the process of being brought into
attunement with the Reiki and the Reiki is brought down to the student in a way that
is in harmony with the student.
As Reiki comes directly from God, the attunement process is a very powerful and
spiritual experience. I remember one particular student starting to quietly cry with
tears streaming down both sides of her face. Afterwards-she shared that she truly felt
that she was in the presence of God himself, and it was the most beautiful experience
of her life.
Many other students often claim to have truly felt their Guardian Angel in a very
tangible way for the first time. One such student simply curled in a small ball on the
floor in a state of childhood bliss, wanting to cherish every last moment of her
experience. We placed a blanket around her and allowed her time to herself.
Afterwards she said that her Guardian Angel had wrapped her wings around her and
she quietly started to cry-, saying she had always wanted to feel and know her angel,
and this experience was one of the most wonderfully beautiful moments of her life.
Many others experience what they would liken to their own mystical moment. Many
see colors, have contact with the divine and receive personal messages, visions and
healings. One particular young lady said that although she normally has a "racy"
mind, during the attunement process she experienced a sense of silence and
stillness that she had long been seeking. Others seem to have very little in regards
to profound experience and instead feel a sense of peace and tranquillity.
The attunement process will often increase psychic and spiritual sensitivity and
awareness. Students may notice their third eye opening, increased intuitive insight
and awareness, and other enhanced abilities during and after receiving an

It never goes away. There are those who receive an attunement and for some
reason are not able to practice Reiki shortly afterwards. A few years down the road
they start using Reiki and it begins to flow readily and naturally. It stays with you for
the- rest of your life no matter how often you use it. Using the Reiki often will however
increase one's ability to be an instrument for the Reiki to flow through.
Additional attunements at the same level will also help to increase the energy flow as
well as enhance one's own healing and development of the healing gifts, such as
discernment, spiritual insight and intuition.
The Healing Crisis

50 watts to 150 watts to 300 watts. A standard 50 watt bulb can not handle the same
amount of energy that a 300 watt bulb, and to try and run three hundred watts of
electricity through a 50 watt bulb would probably fry the 50 watt bulb. With an
attunement our bodies are being upgraded from 50 watts to 150 watts. The wiring of
our spiritual and energetic bodies is being upgraded to handle the increase in
energy available to us.
I was once living in East Boston, Ma; and there were several house fires happening
one whiter through out the neighborhood. The fire department attributed this to the
fact that many of the houses had outdated wiring. Wiring that was OK 50 years and
even 20 years ago, but not today with the added electricity going through the wires to
handle today's amount of electrical appliances and entertainment systems. The
result was that the wiring within the walls of the buildings would get so hot they would
start fires.
Likewise our bodies are designed to develop a certain level of ability to handle so
much energy at one time. If we increase the amount of energy we use, we must
upgrade our ability to do so. The attunement starts this process of upgrading our
"wiring." The result is often a cleansing process that effects the physical body as well
as the mind and emotions. Toxins that have been stored in the body may be
released along with thought patters and emotions no longer useful.

Sometimes people would temporally experience the symptoms of illnesses long ago
recovered from. She attributed this to the fact that often times residue of old illnesses
and foods not fully digested and properly released must move through the body in
order to be now released. As they are be cleared out of the system the symptoms will
being experienced to some degree until the cleansing process is completed.
Science has also been able to map out the energetic structure of many thought and
emotional patterns. Many of these patterns have a particular vibrational range that
they fall in, and as we raise our vibrational rate they can no longer be held onto and

Some friends of mine went on a pilgrimage with Maria Esperanza for ten days. When
they got back, they shared with me that everyone that went started experiencing the
runs, stomach and bowel discomfort the first few days. The wife said, "They had a
name for it, cleaning, clean uh..." I responded, "You mean a cleansing?" And she
exclaimed, "Yes! A cleanse! That's what they called it, do you know what a cleanse
is?" We all had a good laugh over it. Even Catholics are experiencing cleansing on
some of their retreats!
With this in mind it is often helpful to prepare oneself for their attunement. The Reiki

moments of joy and elation. It is important to understand that this is just part of the

Talking with others and attending a Reiki -support group or a prayer group is very
beneficial and highly recommended. Contact your Reiki Master for guidance, what
waits on the other side is well worth it. The rewards are tremendously increased
compassion, zest for life, and a deeper understanding of one's self and of life in

Prior to the attunement it is very helpful to cut down on sweets, caffeine and red
meats. Eat lightly and consider a fast if you are used to fasting, otherwise a fast may
release too much going into the attunement. Ask for guidance if you have any
concerns.
Meditate or pray daily during the week prior to the class. Try to eliminate or reduce
the amount of time watching TV, listening to the radio and/or reading the newspaper.
Go for quiet walks, spending time with nature and God.
The Reiki attunement is a very sacred and holy event which connects you directly to
the Divine Spirit and has been used for thousands of years. By receiving an
attunement you are welcomed by the heavens to actively participate in the healing of
humanity in your own way. By becoming a part of this community, you will also be
able to receive the healing graces being sent out by other like minded people and
Saints.

You can use Reiki for pets as well. Most animals love Reiki, and will benefit from
receiving Reiki when hurt or ill. Even when well, animals tend to love to receive Reiki.
My friend's cats all love Reiki and every time I visit they all jump on my lap and
"meow" until I give them some Reiki. When they're "full" they jump up and go about
their business. If I don't give them Reiki they continue to meow until I do.
Dogs love Reiki as well. In Massachusetts there are practitioners that focus on
treating pets. One ad states, "Reiki for the Animal Kingdom, people treated as well!" I
have had horses trot across fields to where I was giving Reiki, and after receiving
some Reiki they trot back to the other side. I was living on a farm and there were
about twenty three sheep in the back. We were teaching a class outside under a
tent, and when we started the attunement process, all the sheep ran across the field
up to the edge of the fence; getting as close as they could to the attunement
process. Once the attunement was done, they ran back across the field to where
they had come from. It was a remarkable sight to behold, and very delightful as well
to watch God's creatures honor the Reiki in such a way.
Plants likewise respond very well to Reiki. We often have cut flowers in several rooms
through out the house. Those in the rooms were Reiki is done will out live the others
by several weeks even though they were bought at the same time. Plotted plants
benefit from some Reiki producing healthier leaves and flowers.
People, animals and plants all can benefit from Reiki and as you give you receive.
This is a very pleasant aspect of Reiki. As you are acting as a vessel for the Reiki
energy to flow through you receive Reiki as well. The practitioner receives a minor
treatment when giving a treatment or when ever they facilitate the flow of the Reiki
energy. Therefore one's own energy is never depleted as
when working with other types of healing. You do not use your own energy, rather
you actually receive energy. Because of this, giving a treatment always leaves one

done by simply placing your hands on a problem area and asking the Reiki energy to

musk- as many priest *> bless food and drink. Reiki is both powerful and gentle and

Reiking the four wall, floor, ceiling and the middle of the room. Some people like to
envision their cars surrounded by a Reiki bubble for protection. In the end allow your
